Sainsbury's Image on the Inside
Internal Customers
How many businesses are concerned purely with the way they communicate
externally to their customers and ignore the importance of communicating
clearly and effectively with their internal customers, their own staff?
Paying Customers
Poor communications with this sector of your business can lead to staff
feeling neglected and their dissatisfaction can in turn affect the way
they treat the paying customer.
Sainsburys'
Sainsbury's London flagship store at the O2 Centre in London's Finchley
Road, has decided to nurture its internal customer relations with the
use of an electronic programmable noticeboard strategically placed in
the staff canteen, supplied by Esprit Communications.
Motivational
Messages
On the board they display overtime availability, motivational messages,
individual award winners are congratulated, takings information, store
progress, new in-store promotions and even social events, such as birthdays
and Christmas events are also highlighted on the board.
Hi-Tech
Before the electronic information board was in place, the staff would
be given a newsletter with their payslip, or notices would be placed on
a conventional noticeboard. Sometimes the handwriting would be indecipherable
and people wouldn't bother looking at something that was presented in
such a mundane manner. The electronic information board provides an entertaining
and dynamic way to get any message across with impact.
Staff Morale
Colin Adesokan, Senior Deputy at Sainsbury's at the O2 Centre, says that
in comparison to the staff morale at other Sainsburys' stores without
electronic information boards his staff feel valued.
| "They feel communicated with and they
feel their opinions and ideas count. The team spirit here feels better
than at the other stores that I've worked at and this results in better
customer satisfaction. The electronic noticeboard helps us to communicate
with our staff in a simple and economical way." |
Eye Catching
Colin thought of installing the board as a result of seeing them working
so effectively in a cinema foyer. He realised that people really did read
the information being displayed - it was eye-catching, attractive and
neat. When he investigated the product further, he discovered that it
was also easy to use.
| "It's simple and clean, I don't have
to wipe it off, I like the fact that it's modern technology, keeping
in touch with the year 2000. I'm lazy and its easy to use! I like
things simple in life, life is complicated enough already, and this
makes life easy" he added. |
Fast Moving Industry
Colin Adesokan's main concern is to communicate efficiently and effectively
with his 600 colleagues, as he says
| "I work in a fast moving industry, time
is precious to me and I need to communicate effectively with all my
staff, the electronic noticeboard enables me to do that." |
Market Leaders
Esprit Communications are established market leaders in electronic programmable
signs and every SavaCentre already uses these electronic noticeboards
to enhance their internal customer communications. Colin Adesokan is so
convinced by the resulting good morale of his staff that he states,
|
"I think every store with over 100 employees
should have an electronic information board, they're simple to use,
easy to read and digest and its a non-aggressive way to communicate.
Every company that values their colleagues
and employees and their opinions should have one.
Your staff are your internal customers and
you need to value and respect your internal customers as much as
your external customers."
